Forums? Who needs ‘em!
Many developers I speak to want their own heavily populated forum based in their community. I was no different. It’s really nice to have a following and to be able to tap into this group to get a sense of what is trending, where to take your apps next, and directly communicate with those who use your software daily. My core forum audience, maybe even you, skewed very young. By nature this requires constant moderation and tough decisions of how to handle all the crazy that goes on. But what really sucks is how hard it can be to get a forum to become inviting to new users when you’re membership is low. My reaction was to keep upgrading and changing the site. This ultimately confused users and with the growing anger on the forums it made it near impossible to get new members. It was time for them to go…
So I closed the forums. I’ll just blog, invite other friends to blog, and allow for the community to easily submit articles to the front page. But I was running on forum based software on my web-server. I needed to change from Simple Machines Forum (one of the many pieces of forum software I went through) to something specifically for the purpose of a community blog. WordPress is right up my alley.
Going to WordPress is a bit odd for me. I started my site with WordPress years back, and here I am going back to it. It’s come a long way though and I really enjoy it. It’s weakness is the need to bridge user accounts and posts to and from a (decent) forum software. Luckily with the forums out, this becomes less a concern.
What I bring to you today is as much information as you can take from me, my friends, and even you. Similar to what I originally had planned earlier, but without the hassle of using forum software to do a blog’s job.
Do you have some interesting homebrew news, Apple news, or something inbetween? Once registered, you can submit news to me straight from your dashboard for inclusion on the ZodTTD frontpage!

A new site redesign? Well, I guess this is going to be the last one, right?
Anyways, it's a good choice, leaving the forums behind, I hate how every other blog thinks it needs its own forum. even lamer is when these forums are only accessible by members. The result of this? A ton of accounts people make just to read one single forum thread.

Looks very much cleaner and simpler now and I understand where you're coming from in this decision to do away with the forums. My only concern is, how do we now tap into the knowledge of the community with our questions, tutorials, help, etc.? I've found a lot of very valuable information from your sitse, and from engaging with the community members here. I can't write a front-page blog for a specific emulator question, etc. I can't think that it is your intention to limit our access to sharing information.
I cannot believe you have done this Zod. People have been so loyal to this site and made some new friends along the way. I'm sorry but I wont be on here anymore having been active for NEARLY two years.

Hey Zod. I am typing this from my iPhone 3GS. But I had to load the full PC site in mobile safari because comments are not viewable on the mobile version of this site. This was a problem on another wordpress site I post to but they fixed it a long time ago. Just thought I’d let you know.
Anyway very nice site change. I rarely visited your forum because it in fact was a confusing experience and it seemed like many of the users were very young. Nothing wrong with youth. I’m still pretty young myself lol. But I would visit every once in a while to get news and updates. I was a donator as well. My name on your forum was toNYc311. I have a new name now. ^^
So far so good though. I like the wordpress format. I visit sites like appleiphoneschool and iphonefreakz all the time and they have used this format for a very long time. I actually prefer it. So it was a pleasant surprise coming here and seeing this format. However please fix the comment section in the iPhone mobile safari view. It’s annoying not being able to comment and having to open the full site. I use my iPhone almost exclusively for everything believe it or not lol. I have a 3GS so everything works much faster.
I plan to visit more often and comment too. Glad to see you are still going strong Zod. One last thing about the snes4iphone emulator. I opted not to update in Cydia to v6.1.3 and stay at v5.0.5. This is because I have had tremendously bad luck with the Rock app. It has cause 3 restores of my iPhone. I know that many people are having a good experience with Rock and I am not here to bash it or condemn it. However, my personal experiences have always been bad. But I wish one day I can upgrade snes4iphone. Thanks for reading. ^^

Its good to hear some news about psx4iphone as I just purchased the new and quicker iPod touch. I love the new site design it seems far quicker and cleaner than the old one. I agree with Slythe about the snes4iphone with the rock app. Ive had many issues with the rock app myself I would also love to right some reviews about your new updates the psx4iphone and other emulators on my blog digitalifestyle.iblogger.org. Im waiting for their release with baited breath. My last question is how would I go about getting access to your beta repository ive seen that I could make a youtube video or donate. As of my age I have no way to do the later as of right now. But if there is any other way I would love to know. Thanks

Wow, this sucks. I'll still use/buy your software because it's great software, but I'm a little sad that you're turning your back on the members that have been loyal to you for ~2 years.
The forums/wiki and members that were part of it, were the backbone of zods projects and zod has ruined that…
The forums were 99% off topic and I was told to simply remove them, by respected people in the community. With the increasing amount of trolls coming in over snes4iphone, it was time they went. The wiki is still up.
I haven't turned my back. I'm simply cleaning up things in hopes more adult conversation happens. I can police things better for trolls here, and simply unapprove their useless rants.
While the previous iteration of the forums were better than before, there were not enough users to overcome the increasing amount of trolls here. I also don't want my site to be just support, I actually want to write about what I do. It just seems things kept getting bogged down.

I'm attempting to use the gameboy4iphone app and am having a little problem. The ROMs are all successfully loaded, the app is installed but everytime i try and load the app, when i get to the screen that lets me pick my game, before i can pick it exits out to safari and has a banner with a link business.com i can't figure out how to get round this. Does anyone know how?

The concept of getting some money for hard work is not bad at all, but illegally charging money without permission of the copyright holders doesn't seem right.

I think you should be more confident of your software.

I removed the beta repo once I became a community source in Cydia, making all my releases except for gpSPhone (Cydia Store) and snes4iphone (RockApp) available publicly, free of charge of course.
And that makes it excusable?
well, damn… i was going to post a picture of a request for the N64 emulator (i made a pic of the n64 controller that could possibly be used for it) but the forums died off. i did think the forums were a little helpful for some developers and other users because of everyones ideas and stuff like that. i honestly like forums for that reason, but now im not sure where to post this N64 controller pic.
It would be cool if you added like a "mini side forum" or something to this site so people could give developers ideas for their apps. or your apps.
Hey zod, thanks for all the technical updates on the blog and work you're putting into both emus and comment moderation.
I think getting rid of the forum might not have been the best but certainly the most efficient idea with all the immature people it was housing.

So zod… First you attempt to drive away new users every so many months by redesigning the site and calling it a better change whenever someone stumbles upon the site and decides to stay. The whole reason for staying on this site is for the forums no to listen to you ramble on about how the next version of "4iphone" is going to be better because I did this, this and this.
Without even attempting to fix the many bugs in an Emulator like Temper or Genesis you decide to announce you are going to start work on a Dos and N64 emulator? So now you are leaving most of your audience behind accept those with a 3gs or 3rd gen touch. And I also heard you started to charge for snes4ipone. Really. When there is so much wrong with the emulator itself.
But back to the forums. They really were the only reason anyone stayed on this site. Even if half the time it was helping out a newbie who had no idea what he was doing. The forums are the only reason on this site. Nobody gives if you just did some magic on an emulator and now were going to pay for it. You update it on your ipod or phone and it works.
So now you tell ticktock that you are hoping for a more adult audience and you tell Nitrous that he was about to be banned? 2 of your most loyal users and you dont even care if they leave? Whats wrong with you? They have been with you since the begining and you dont care. You will never find anyone better than them. Do you know that most people who ask those nooby questions are probably adults trying to figure it out. Because any other child could just use youtube. Your site is full of teens mostly because teens are interested in this and know how to do stuff like this. You are not going to find a group of adults who want to help and learn this.
The people who like this are probably the new influx of members you just got who are being tricked into thinking you are going to give them something special if they just go along with it. During the last couple of months I came here at least twice a day!!! I bought gpsPhone and will buy future emus (on cydia). I am nearly 30 years old! And I usually don´t have to put my 2 cents everywhere. I am more like a reader, I figure it out myself, usually with the help of a forum!!! Because usually I was not the first "noob" having some issues. It doesn´t matter in witch community I am: the forums are my base of knowlege in questions of technical needs.
I mean: Where else should I adress my questions about my newly purchased gpsPhone not running on my blackra1ned 3gs 3.1.2? Into the comments?
Back at the forum I saw, I was not the only one… and I even got help with some different issues…
And in the forum I also saw, that there were other threads with other people having other problems. And when there were to many of them, they disappeared. The threads, not the problems, sometimes the people, all of a sudden even Zod… and finally the whole forum.
During the last couple of months I came here at least twice a day. Usually I am only a reader, but in the last couple of days I have to think hard about tossing my two cents:

This behavior poisend the community and you can see that through all the complaining people here.

Actually, are there any Hello Kitty iphone games? (or other iphone kid games, if not). We are getting an iphone next month and I am looking to see if there is any going to be any decent stuff for her to play with as well. Sorry to be off topic but I coudn’t resist sharing this, hoping it might help some of you.
I am not really new to this forum but never bothered to write anything until now. I have reading around this and that forum to find some solution to my problems. I don’t want to bore you guys with my horror story but I would like to say a few words to encourage others.
I use to get panic attacks since my childhood and now I am 26. I was some how living with it due to support from my father and friend. I am shy by nature and find it hard to mix with people and so I have few friends. But around 5 years ago, things turned to worst. I lost my parents in an accident. I then my life was turned upside down. I some how managed to get a boyfriend and I finally felt like coming back to life. I loved her and he too but I guess, I was making his life miserable and so he left, 6 months ago. Ok enough of my sad life.
I actually never lost faith in myself. I was taking medication and I spent quite a lot of time on internet looking for some miracle information. I bought lot of books, CDs and what not. And then, I stumbled upon this course by Mr. Sal. It’s called Panic away. Just search for “panicaway dot com” and u will find it. I also tried the famous linden method but former seems to work better for me.
And since then my life is slowly and slowly turning around.
His approach is simple and yet effective. I started reading it around 4 months ago and the last attack that I got was 41 days ago. Earlier, it used to be like 1-2 times each week.I wish that I had found this course an year ago. Anyway. That’s it, I would say that you guys so give it a try and if this helps you then my effort of writing this looong post would be worthwhile.
